An Exposition of Christ in the Old covenant

Christ is the complete revelation of the divine wisdom, purposes and secrets of God. The plan of salvation and redemption through the forgiveness of sins has been hidden from man from the beginning of time. The plan had been fully completed in Christ before the foundations of the world. The old covenant which comprises of the Torah(Pentateuch; the five books of Moses) contains the law, the precepts, righteous judgements and then the commandments of God. Hidden in these are types and shadows of the Pre- incarnate Christ. Christ was typified in Genesis as the tree of life in the garden of Eden. Christ was also typified as the sacrificial lamb that was offered as sin and burnt offerings, the ram of consecration, the scapegoat, the young Bullock offered by the priest for his own atonement and that of his children, the priests. The Old covenant writings must be studied with the lens of Christ only.

An Exposition of Christ in the Old covenant

[1] THE TREE OF LIFE
The tree of Life is a type of who Christ is. Christ is the life and the essence of God. In Christ is Life and immortality. John 1:4, 2Tim 1:10.
While Jesus walked upon the earth, he called himself the bread of life and said anyman who eat his flesh and drink his blood shall never hunger and thirst again, but shall live forever. John 6:35.

Eating the bread or his flesh typified you accepting him or believing in him as God made manifest in human body 1 Tim 3:16. It is a type of you believing in the resurrection. If Adam had eaten of the tree of life in the garden of Eden, he would not have experienced both spiritual and physical death, but would rather had lived forever, maturing into the full stature of Christ. Now we who have the Firstfruits in our heart, and have believed by eating his flesh(the body of Jesus) will never experience death(separation from God).

Jesus called himself the resurrection and the life. A proof of him being typified as the tree of life in the garden. Anyone who comes to Christ will experience resurrection and will live forever in God.

Christ also called himself the light of life i.e the wisdom that gives life. Had Adam eaten of the tree of life, he would have been continuously supplied with an intelligence that'll make him mature in the things of the Spirit to the full stature of Christ.

1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that
hath not the Son of God hath not life.

[2] The Sacrificial lamb of Exodus 12
Exodus 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:

Fulfillment: Jesus(the lamb of God) entered into Jerusalem on the 10th day of the first month..

Exodus  12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

Fulfillment: Jesus was without spot and blemish, he lived the purest form even in the dispensations of the law. He was a spotless lamb without blemish

Exodus  12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

Fulfillment: Jesus was killed on the fourteenth day of the month Nissan (also Aviv; the first month), three days after he entered Jerusalem in the evening at the ninth hour (3'o clock).

Exodus 12:7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

Fulfillment: Jesus offered his blood unto God via the Eternal Spirit and made atonement for the sins of the world. Anyone who will believe in Him is covered in Christ via the blood.

Exodus 12:10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.

Fulfillment: Jesus's body never remained on the cross after the day he was crucified. His body was brought down the same day.

Exodus 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

Fulfillment: The believer in Christ is in the blood. Such has been Eternally Saved from the wrath, tribulations and indignation to come. The believer in Christ doesn't have any covenant with death. Christ is his refuge and hiding place. Psalm 18:1

Exodus 12:46 In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof.

Fulfillment: While Christ was beaten and stroke with cords and at the cross of crucifixion, none of his bones was broken. David also saw this in the Psalms
Psalms  34:20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

Christ is the Passover lamb that was slain to atone for the sins of the whole world. In Christ is Eternal security from death and destruction. Those in Christ are covered with the blood.

[3] The two goats meant for the sin offering for the children of Israel, the ram of consecration and the young bullock whose blood will atone for the sins and transgressions of the High Priest.

Leviticus 16:7 And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

16:8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.

The scapegoat typifies Christ
Leviticus  16:15 Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:

16:16 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.

Fulfillment: Christ is the sacrificial lamb that was slain for the sins of the children of Israel. When he rose from the dead, he became the high priest of the New covenant which was predicated upon his own blood. Christ entered into the holiest of all and poured out his blood upon the mercy seat, he then came out to atone for the sins and transgressions of the whole world. The blood of Christ purged our conscience and made us who believe in him alive to God. Heb 9-7-15

Leviticus 16:21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:

16:22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

Fulfillment: Christ is our scapegoat who was made sin by God and led into the wilderness 2Cor 5:21. His nature of righteousness was substituted with the nature of sin. The sins of men before he walked upon the earth, during his time and after his time was poured into his Spirit and he was sent out to suffer in the wilderness.

Leviticus 16:27 And the bullock for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.

Fulfillment: Jesus our sin offering was crucified outside the camp i.e outside Jerusalem, in Golgotha(the place of the skull). There, the fire of God's wrath and indignation was set upon him and sin and death was abolished in his flesh.

[4] The Holy Convocations
Leviticus  23:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.

There are seven Feasts outlined in this chapter which are all signposts pointing to the real substance which is Christ. These feasts all represent a timing in the agenda of God to reconcile all things to Himself.

Leviticus  23:5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD's passover.

Fulfillment:Jesus who is our Passover lamb entered into Jerusalem on the fourteenth day of the first month Nissan(also Aviv). He has been consecrated as a lamb without spot which will be offered as a sin offering for the Jews.

1.The first is the Feast of Passover which signifies when the death angel (angel of destruction) passed over the entire land of Egypt and slew all firstborns. The Children of Israel were all saved by the blood sprinkled on their doorposts and on their lintels. This blood is a type of the blood of the New Covenant which we believers are in presently. We are eternally secured in Christ.

2. The second feast is the feast of Unleavened bread

Leviticus  23:6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.

Fulfillment: This typifies the quick, suddden departure of the children of Israel from the land of Egypt. During that period, they ate no leavened bread. Christ is our Unleavened bread.

3. The third feast is the feast of firstfruits in which the children of Israel are to weave a sheaf of firstfruit unto the Lord. In this feast, the sheaf of a lamb of the first year without blemish will be offered as a burnt offering typifying the sacrifice of Christ, our sacrificial lamb. Then meat offerings and drink offerings are also offered unto God.

The whole concept of the feast of firstfruits typifies the resurrection of Christ from the dead, who is the firstfruits of them that are risen from the dead. 1 Cor 15:23

4.The fourth feast is the feast of Pentecost-

Leviticus  23:15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:

23:16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.

Pentecost means fifty days, counting from the time the feast of firstfruits was offered as a holy convocation unto God. The day of Pentecost signifies the day of the outpouring of the HolySpirit from heaven fifty days after Christ rose from the dead(fifty days from feast of
firstfruits). Christ is our Pentecost.

There is a very huge similarity between the outpouring of the HolySpirit during Pentecost and the giving of the Law to Moses on Mount Sinai. When the law was given, there was a manifestation of smokes, fire and thunder from heaven. That same day, 3000 Israelites died Exodus 19:16-19

On the other hand, on the day of Pentecost, 10 days after Christ ascended into Heaven and fifty days after his resurrection, the Holyghost came down in a rushing mighty wind and there was cloven tongues likened to fire on the top of their heads. Acts 2:1-4

These four feasts listed above are called the Rise feasts. They were feasts that typified ;
Christ's death- Passover
Christ's burial- Unleavened Bread
Christ's Resurrection- Firstfruits
The Outpouring of the Spirit of Christ- Pentecost

The other three feasts are yet to be fulfilled. They will be fulfilled during the Rapture of the Saints, the tribulations and then the Millennial Reign of Christ with the saints on Earth( The Heavenly
Jerusalem; Zion)

[5] Feast of Trumpets

Leviticus  23:24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

The fulfillment of it was seen by the inspiration of the Spirit through Apostle Paul in his first epistle to the Corinthian church

1 Corinthians  15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Also seen
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

[6] Day of Atonement
Leviticus  23:27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

The fulfillment of these will be seen shortly after the tribulations that'll befall the earth. By then, the whole earth shall see Christ who was pierced descending from the heavens with his holy angels and they shall all tremble. Zech 12:9-10.

This day is seen as a day of Affliction when the children of Israel will be afflicted in their soul and anyone who is not afflicted will be killed.

Zechariah 12:12 And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;

12:13 The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart;

12:14 All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.

[7] The feast of Tabernacles

Leviticus 23:39 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.

23:40 And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days.

The feast of Tabernacles, unlike the day of Atonement is a day filled with much rejoicing amongst the people. There are lots of feasts done that day. This day is a type of when Christ will come down in his divine glory with all the saints to reign forever and ever on Earth.

The fulfillment of this was seen in the Psalms by prophecy concerning Christ; the fruit of David

Psalms 132:11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

132:12 If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.

We Reign forever with Christ; Glory Hallelujah!
